Кафедра енергетичного менеджменту і технічної діагностики фахово займається питанням проектування, спорудження та введення в дію сонячних електростанцій (СЕС) невеликої потужності (до 30 кВт). Також надає консультаційний супровід, щодо вибору якісних комплектуючих СЕС, відповідальних та фахових інсталяторів та підключення даних СЕС до «зеленого тарифу».
Як приклад діяльності кафедри в напрямку відновлюваної енергетики, в рамках проекту «Впровадження рішень з використанням поновлювальних джерел енергії і покращення енергоефективності в Тлумацькому районі», який фінансується урядом Польщі, на будівлі Тлумацької райдержадміністрації у 2015 р. встановлено дослідно-демонстраційну установку «Мережева сонячна електростанція». Дослідно-демонстраційна установка повністю відтворює мережеву сонячну електростанцію, як найбільш ефективний спосіб перетворення сонячної енергії в електричну. Вироблена фотоелектричними батареями електроенергія через мережевий інвертор скидається в електромережу будівлі, зменшуючи споживання мережевої електроенергії. Сумарна обрана потужність для сонячних фотоелктричних батарей складає 1000 Вт.
Фотоелектричні панелі розміщені на південній стороні будівлі, під оптимальним кутом (для м. Тлумач) і на оптимальній висоті доступній для огляду і обслуговування. В якості мережевого інвертора застосовано новітню модель Sunny Boy 1.5 німецької компанії SMA Solar Technology AG, (www.sma.de), який був вперше інстальований на теренах України. Проектування і монтаж установки проведено фахівцями кафедри ЕМ і ТД.

Віддалений моніторинг СЕС дозволяє отримати дані, щодо роботи станції за різних метеоумов та в умовах різної інсоляції. Такі дані дозволяють оцінити зокрема негативний вплив нагріву фотоелектричних батарей впродовж сонячного дня на величину генерації СЕС.
